Stereo Visualization How-To

Using stereo on SGI with monitor

StereoGraphics' CrystalEyes hardware for stereo visualization is installed on cortez. The CrystalEyes infrared emitter together with LC shutter glasses is capable of delivering high-definition, stereoscopic 3D images in conjunction with compatible software. Please follow your application's directions about how to enable stereo display.

Using InsightII with CrystalEyes hardware:

  • Start insightII with command insightIIs.
  • To enable stereo display go to Session->Stereo and click on Execute. This will switch the monitor to stereo mode. You can change Stereo Angle value to 1 for a better display.
  • To go back to the default display mode open Session->Stereo and click on Execute.

Using XtalView with CrystalEyes:

  • You can switch between stereo and normal modes by hitting the Esc key.
Running O in stereo-in-a-window mode:

/usr/gfx/setmon -p 0 STR_TOP

If your software doesn't properly switch back from stereo to normal mode (like XtalView) you can reset the monitor using this command:

/usr/gfx/setmon -n 1600x1024_83

Using stereo on Linux with monitor or projector

Linux workstation serra is stereo enabled. The stereo image can be viewed either on the monitor or on the big projector screen using the Barco stereo projector. On information how to use the projector please see Audio-Visual How-To page.

VMD

Before launching VMD you need to set this:

setenv VMDPREFERSTEREO

then start up VMD and turn on stereo mode: Display->Stereo->CrystalEyes.

To turn it off: Display->Stereo->Off.

Pymol

Start Pymol and turn on stereo mode: Display->Stereo Mode->Quad-Buffered Stereo.

To turn it off: Display ->Stereo.

InsightII

To run insightII follow these steps:

source /opt/accelrys/insightII.csh
insightII
then to switch stereo on go to Session->Stereo->Execute. To go back to normal mode go to Session->Stereo->Execute again.

Note: We currently do not provide CrystalEyes glasses, you have to bring your own pair.

For information on how to use the Barco stereo projector in the KeckII room see Audio-Visual How-To page.
