Printing How-To

Please note: you should always write down your user name and the number of pages you printed on the log sheet next to the printers for accounting purposes.

Printers

  • Xerox DocuColor 4CP
Full color, large format printer. Handles up to PostScript level 3.
  • Hewlett-Packard 8150DN
Black and white laser printer with duplexing. Handles PostScript levels 1 and 2.

Printing from UNIX workstations (SGI, SUN and Linux)

We use the LPRng printer daemon software which will convert some file types into PostScript. However, it is usually a good idea to just print PostScript files to these printers. You can print some PostScript file file.ps to the Xerox printer with:

lpr -Pxerox file.ps

And to the HP B/W laser printer with:

lpr -Pkeck2hp file.ps

or

lpr -Pkeck2hp -Zduplex file.ps

to enable duplex printing.

Printing from Windows workstations

The HP printer is named keck2hp and the Xerox printer is named xerox.

Note: Please do not use injkjet glossy paper, photopaper or inkjet transparencies in any of the KeckII printers. Use only supplies designed for high-temperature environment of laser printers. Before using any special supplies please contact the KeckII administrator.
