Stereo visualization using Barco CRT projector
The BarcoReality 909 CRT projector is capable of 3D, stereo projection when using
stereo-capable software on serra and cook.
Stereo on serra is set up with active emitters and this is our default set up. If you would like to use stereo projection on SGI on cook which requires a manual reconfiguration please contact keck-help @ keck2.ucsd.edu.
Using stereo projector with serra
- Power the projector up:
- If the Projector Mode LED on the back of the projector is not
on press the Power button on the back of the projector, the LED
should go red.
- Press the power on/off button on the remote, the Projector Mode
LED on the back of the projector should go green and the projector
should turn on.
- Log in to serra.
- Now select Polo on the touch screen as the source and after
a couple of seconds the serra's screen should come up on the big
projector screen.
- Now follow instructions on the Stereo Visualization
How-To page on how to use different applications to visualize
stereo images.
- After you are finished please don't forget to turn the projector off
by pressing the power on/off button on the remote. Do not use the Power
button on the back of the projector.
Please be aware that setup of the Barco projector is a
very difficult procedure - do not change any setting on the projector using the remote. If you need any help please contact keck-help @ keck2.ucsd.edu.
Some tips for using stereo on cook (now mostly obsolete)
- Running InsightII in full screen stereo mode:
setenv STEREO_TRIGGER '/usr/gfx/setmon -n STR_RECT'
setenv STEREO_DEVICE 1
setenv NORMAL_TRIGGER '/usr/gfx/setmon -n 1600x1024_83'
setenv WB_STEREO_TYPE soft
setenv WB_STEREO_OFFSET 532
insightII -gl
To actually enable stereo in InsightII go to Session->Stereo and
press 'Execute'. To go to full screen mode press 'F1' button. To
go back go to Session->Stereo and again press 'Execute'.
- Running InsightII in stereo-in-a-window mode:
setenv STEREO_DEVICE 1
setenv STEREO_TRIGGER 1
setenv NORMAL_TRIGGER "/usr/gfx/setmon -n 1600x1024_83"
insightII -gl
or just type insightIIs. To actually enable stereo in InsightII go to Session->Stereo and
press 'Execute'. To
go back go to Session->Stereo and again press 'Execute'.
- xfit, XtalView - you don't need any special commands, just press
'Esc' key to turn stereo on and press it again to go back.
- To try some SGI stereo demos:
cd /usr/demos/General_Demos/powerflip/data
/usr/demos/General_Demos/powerflip/powerflip -S filename
where filename is one of the following: beethoven.ydl,
doughnut.ydl, logo.ydl, martini.ydl, ranger.ydl, re_can.ydl,
shell.ydl, porsche.ydl, space.ydl, tricera.ydl and x29.ydl.
To quit press 'Esc'.
- In case your display won't return to the default size/refresh rate you
can use
video_reset command to reset it. Or just logout
and login back.
Please do not try to adjust anything using the
projector remote - it
is very easy to delete important configuration settings from the projector
memory and very difficult to put it back. If you have any questions or
concerns please contact KeckII administrator.
Technical details: powerflip, xfit and InsightII in full screen mode
use the 1280x492_114s mode (60.7 kHz@114Hz). InsightII in
stereo-in-a-window runs at 1024x768_96s (77.4 kHz@96Hz).
For information on how to use stereo with monitors go to Stereo Visualization How-To page.
